Similar to the Hollywood Walk of Fame, the San Pedro Sportswalk
was launched in 1978. Over 75 athletes have been honored, including
Major League Baseball stars Ron Cey, legends such as UCLA basketball
coach John Wooden, Olympic Champion Rafer Johnson, NFL Hall of Fame
member Deacon Jones, and NBA superstars Wilt Chamberlain, Jerry
West and Elgin Baylor.
San Pedro greats such as Super Bowl champ Tim Wrightman, NBA star
Willie Naulls and Major League Baseball's Brian Harper, Alan Ashby,
Joe Amalfitano, Garry Maddox, and Joe Lovitto all have been honored
with a plaque on the walk.
In 2004, NFL safety and American hero, the late Pat Tillman, San
Francisco star quarterback, John Brodie, and local boxers, Jim Harryman
and Andy Heilman were honored. In addition, Marion Ancich, the longtime
football coach at Saint Paul's High School received the Trani Award
